Pacific
Knowledge Systems today announced the sale of its unique pathology software to
the Institute of Medical and Veterinary Science (IMVS) in Adelaide.
The
laboratory software developed by Pacific Knowledge Systems – called LabWizard -
assists in the interpretation and reporting of pathology results.
The
Chief Executive of Pacific Knowledge Systems, Dr Glenn Edwards, said LabWizard uses
the expertise ofhelps the pathologists to deliver
interpretative comments on laboratory resultsspecialist opinions on pathology test
results to
doctors and patients.
“The
software learns from real casespathologists
and applies it their expertise to future pathology reports,
therefore providing the best interpretation of pathology results for each
individual patient,” he said.
IMVS
is the leading provider of pathology laboratory services across both the public
and private sectors in South Australia.
It is a Statutory Authority established in 1938 under its own State
Government Act and reports to the Minister for Human Services. It provides services supporting public
health and health care throughout rural and remote South Australia.
Both
PKS and IMVS acknowledge the important role laboratory testing plays in the
prevention, diagnosis and treatment in important areas of public health such as,
including diabetes and coronary heart disease. In Australia, over 1 million people
have diabetes but only half are aware of their diagnosis. Laboratory tests play a vital
role in the
diagnosis of diabetes. As well, prudent
use of tests can help diabetic patients maintain better health and reduce costs.

Director of IMVS, Professor Barrie Vernon-Roberts, said acquiring LabWizard
will ensure help the Institute is better-positioned
to conduct a greater number of laboratory testsmaintain its world
best standards in South Australian
pathology..

as importantly, each LabWizard test reports delivers
an important and authoritative interpretative
commentspecialist opinions that will
allow us to guide the management of coronary disease and diabetespatient care
more effectively,” Professor Vernon-Roberts said.
“LabWizard
will also be an important tool in our contribution to continuing medical
education programs which support general practitioners and their patients.
“In short, we are convinced LabWizard will
play an important role in delivering efficiencies and improvements to the
healthcare environment in South Australia.”
