• General
  • PKS has customers in chemical pathology, other areas of diagnostic medicine and the airline industry. These seem surprisingly diverse industries, but essentially the same problem is being addressed in each case.

Pathology laboratories carry out diagnostic tests and issue reports for thousands of patients every day. Because of the range and complexity of modern diagnostic tests, a pathologist should inspect all reports and provide detailed patient specific advice for the GP where needed.

Similarly, for each airline, travel agents will sell thousands of tickets every day. If a ticket doesn’t accurately comply with the conditions in the airline’s constantly changing fare sheets, the airline can lose money, so ideally every ticket needs to be checked against the fare sheet by experienced airline staff who have a deep knowledge of the airline.

In both these examples there is a constant stream of cases and there is great value, but a high cost, in applying expert human judgement to each case. The outcome is different, diagnostic and patient management advice to a GP or correction of the monies owing, but the essential feature of the task is the same: repetitive application of expensive human expertise to constant stream of cases.

RippleDown enables this human expertise to be captured at very low cost and with very little demand on the expert, even if the rules are constantly changing, as with airline fare sheets. RippleDown applies the expertise it has learned to the on-going stream of cases with a very high performance inference engine.  RippleDown can apply wherever there is a stream of cases requiring skilled human judgement. Examples include:

    • Credit card fraud
    • Loan assessments
    • Billing
    • Share trading transactions and projections
    • Automated or semi-automated responses to email queries to a help desk
    • Security checks

  • Pathology
  • We are a leading provider of decision support software to the pathology sector.  Powered by PKS' unique RippleDown technology, offering a tool for leveraging clinical pathologists expertise in today's highly demanding lab environment. Enabling pathologists to support physicians and patients in delivering best practice in pathology testing. RippleDown integrates into the lab's reporting workflow to apply clinically relevant and helpful specialist opinions to pathology reports.

The software learns from, and is driven by pathologists. It applies their expertise and local knowledge to generate pathology reports, providing the best interpretation of pathology results for each individual patient.

RippleDown is in use in teaching hospitals and labs around the world. With more than 2 million patient reports processed each month, our systems are enabling better business and pathology standards.

  • Healthcare
  • Pacific Knowledge Systems specialises in data analysis and data management for the Pathology sector.

Our software is built on superior RippleDown technology, which enables accurate analysis of tests and produces commentary and recommendations in native language reports. Independent research confirms that GP’s prefer more informative pathology results that reference patient history and market place trends as this offers superior healthcare management to the patient.

We have partnered with a number of Pharmaceutical companies on direct Marketing projects where treatment is measured or assessed by blood tests. These projects are marketing products where blood tests are required before prescriptions can be authorised. Our software generates evidence based data to support new listings on the PBS as well as for Safety Studies and the monitoring of the initiation of treatments.

  • Airline
  • Airline tickets are sold with sets of terms and conditions called Fare Sheets. Travel agents have the responsibility of ensuring that the tickets they sell, and the itineraries they book for their customers, respect the terms and conditions. Any deviation from the rules is a loss of revenue for the airline.

Another problem is that effective auditing of airline tickets requires deep knowledge of the airline, which is limited to experienced employees. This expert knowledge is an important commercial asset for the airline.

PKS has the technology to effectively audit air tickets in-house. Accordingly we have built the Knowledge Base to simultaneously analyse fare sheets, booking and ticket histories. Our knowledge base sources the data from disparate databases, interprets the file and if there is revenue to be collected, produces an ADM.

The RippleDownAuditor software deployed to manage this system is highly multi-threaded. This means that millions of tickets can be audited in a single day, which has produced millions of dollars in savings for operators within the industry.
